Research in the USA has today a great share in possible links between TMD and sleeping troubles.
About from clenching sleeping troubles : trigeminal (so dental) inputs are known to possibly project to a nervous center : the locus coeruleus which participates to sleeping mechanisms.
This structure was called by ancient french anatomists : trigeminal vegetative nucleus.
By the way, the clinical notices from different clinicians give evidence of a recovered sleeping quality after stopping the parafunctional clenching.

We speculate that activation of sensory trigeminal afferents (ie: from teeth) during REM sleep might contribute to pathological REM sleep-associated respiratory failures.
